The Beaujolais Nouveau tradition
The Beaujolais Nouveau (also Beaujolais Primeur) keeps a tradition since 1951. The Beaujolais winemakers at this time did not have today's knowledge about conserving and stocking their wine for a long time. In march 1951 they asked the government for allowance to sell their wine one month earlier to the local bistros and bars. With the permission the Beaujolais Nouveau tradition started.
"Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé"
The first official release date (15th november) was changed in 1985 to the third Thursday in November. The Beaujolais Nouveau tradition was spread all over France and worldwide. Who wanted to sell the wine had to agree to do this not before this third Thursday in November.
Till today people drink the wine young and everywhere the traditional slogan "Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé" can be read when it is time for the new Beaujolais Nouveau. Don't miss it!
